Assessement of plasma total protein and protein fractions during peripartum period in ewes

The aim of this study was to determine the blood protein changes during different physiological stages and to compare with pregnancy and dairy period in ewes. A total of 120 blood samples were taken from thirty Ouled Djellal ewes (the native sheep breed in Algeria) at the beginning of pregnancy (on 30 days), at the late of pregnancy (on 120 days) and on days 7 and 30 postpartum.

Impact of the fetal age and litter size on the electrolytes levels in ovine fetal fluids

The main objective of this work is to study the influence of the fetal age and litter size on the mineral composition (Ca, P, Mg, Na, K and Cl) of fetal fluids and maternal plasma during pregnancy in ewes. Blood samples were collected from local abatttoir before slaughtering and a total of 102 gravid sheep uteri were collected agter evisceration. Amniotic and allantoic fluids are aspirated separately into plastic tubes and were subjected to biochemical analysis. The pregnancies were divided according to gestation days into 4 stages: S1 (0–60 days), S2 (61–90 days), S3 (91–120 days) and S4 (121–145 days).

Assessment of animal welfare in sheep farming in semi-arid regions.

The welfare of farmed animals has become a major social demand in developed countries as well as the quality of livestock products and the preservation of the environment. In Algeria, the concept of animal welfare in sheep farming remains neglected although it has been the subject of several studies in developed countries.

Effect of steppe desertification on the composition of principal diet components for sheep in Algeria.

The study was led in order to determine the chemical and mineral composition of the principal components of feed ration for cattle under semi arides conditions in Algeria. In this respect, Samples of concentrate and straw were collected and analysed according to AOAC methods for dry matter (DM) content at analysis, total ashes, crude proteins (CP) as N×6.25 by macro Kjeldahl, ether extract by Soxhlet method.
