Desertification Vulnerability in Arid Mediterranean Ecosystems: A Case Study of the Boussaada Sub-Basin, (Southwest Hodna, Algeria).

Desertification represents a pressing global concern, with Algeria facing significant challenges in
this regard. The Hodna region is undergoing rapid landscape transformation due to
Desertification. Protecting against desertification and improving the living conditions of
dependent populations have become national priorities in Algeria. The aim of this study is to
assess desertification sensitivity, develop a set of thematic maps (including vegetation quality,
soil quality, etc.), and established GIS-based of the study area using Geographic Information
System (GIS) based on the MEDALUS (Mediterranean Desertification and Land Use) approach.
The Desertification Sensitivity Index (DSI) is derived by integrating four primary indicators:
Soil Quality Index (SQI), Climate Quality Index (CQI), Vegetation Quality Index (VQI), and
Anthropogenic Quality Index (AQI). The analysis of the desertification sensitivity map for the
Boussaada sub-basin identified five distinct zones: highly sensitive, sensitive, moderately
sensitive, less sensitive, and non-sensitive. The findings reveal that 76% of the Boussaada area is
categorized as sensitive to highly sensitive to desertification. This region is defined as a predesert zone,
characterized by an arid climate with scarce and erratic rainfall, alongside
inadequate land management practices

The presence of wild Helianthus annuus in M’Sila (Algeria) - first description

We report in this work the presence of an Asteraceae in M’Sila. Helianthus annuus species (the genus is very close to the genus Verbesina) is not reported in the flora of Algeria as weed, invasive or ruderal. The species ranked in the Tribe of Heliantheae which includes 4 genres including Verbesina, Ambrosia, Xanthium and Bidens in the flora of Quezel; Santa (1962-1963). Observed for a few years in the municipality of M’Sila at several different sites (roadside, rubble, cultivated land and foot of an ornamental tree).

Les plantes médicinales des régions steppiques. Cas de la Wilaya de M’Sila

Afin de connaître et de recenser les plantes et leurs usages en médecine traditionnels chez les habitants des zones steppiques dans la wilaya de M'sila, des enquêtes ethnobotaniques ont été réalisées depuis l’année 2005. L’ensemble de ces travaux de recherches effectuer dans la région ont fait l’objet d’une synthèse et e pour la période 2005-2024. Ces enquêtes ont été réalisées auprès de plus de 2000 personnes de différentes catégories sociales. Toutes ces enquêtes ont permis de récolter (recueillir) des informations sur les méthodes traditionnelles de traitement des maladies et les plantes utilisées.Le cumul des résultats des enquêtes ethnobotaniques effectuées à travers 47 communes de la wilaya de M’Sila à permis d’identifier 549 plantes utilisées en médecine traditionnelle et qui appartiennent à 89 familles botaniques (les plus cités sont les Asteraceae et les Lamiaceae) dont 447 espèces sont spontanées, 74 cultivées et 28 introduites et ce plus d’un champignon (terfès). De plus, Il a été recenser plus de 32 produits d’origine animal, minéral et même végétal et plus de 170 méthodes (recettes) traitant plus de 50 maladies. L’étude a montré que les feuilles sont les parties les plus utilisées et que les usages les plus courants sont l'infusion et la décoction pour traiter les maladies de l’appareil digestif et l’appareil respiratoire

La biodiversité végétale Une richesse et un atout à preserver ! Une contribution sur la steppe algérienne

La biodiversité est essentielle à la santé des écosystèmes et à notre bien-être. Les plantes jouent un rôle fondamental dans cet équilibre, notamment grâce à leur capacité à transformer l’énergie solaire en biomasse. Elles fournissent des ressources vitales telles que la nourriture, l’oxygène, les médicaments et d’autres matériaux indispensables. Les niveaux de biodiversité sont d’ordre génétique, spécifique et écosystèmique. A l’instar des pays du monde, l’Algérie, de part son immensité recèle une biodiversité végétale de près de 4 000 espèces natives, dont 8 % sont endémiques et où certaines plantes, comme Pistacia atlantica et Saccocalyx satureioides, sont protégées par la réglementation nationale. Parmi les formations végétales, les steppes algériennes présentent une végétation variée et adaptée aux conditions arides mais elles y sont menacées par le surpâturage, le défrichement et la sécheresse. La préservation de la biodiversité végétale touche les niveaux taxonomiques, le biotope et le comportement des habitants. Pour un développement durable et une sauvegarde efficace les interventions doivent cibler surtout la préservation du milieu et s’axer sur le volet socio-économique et en faisant participer la population.

Diversité des groupes floristiques au Nord-Est des monts des Oulad Nail (Cas de Djebel Messaad, wilaya de M'Sila – Algérie)

L’extrême nord-est des monts des Oulad Nail (Algérie), abrite une forêt méditerranéenne continentale et semi-aride. Les forêts méditerranéennes sont connues pour leur végétation originelle où l’effet de la sécheresse peut déterminer la phytodiversité qui s y trouve. Dans ces zones naturelles, il est important d’avoir une idée des distributions spatiales de la végétation par ce qu’il n’existe aucune mesure pour la préserver. Pour montrer l'impact de la topographie sur la diversité végétale et sa répartition spatiale, la méthodologie adoptée est un échantillonnage non probabiliste mixte (stratifié et subjectif), qui a été conduit selon l’exposition et l’altitude. Cet échantillonnage a été appliqué à 36 échantillons floristiques (2 expositions X 2 altitudes X 9 répétitions) d’une surface représentative de 120 m² chacun. L’analyse numérique a permis de distinguer des groupes floristiques dans des états différents avec des conditions écologiques particulières. Deux gradients apparaissent dans l’analyse des correspondances en raison du changement de l’exposition et de la variation de l’altitude. Le résultat des disparités de l’environnement physique, sur la phytodiversité existante, a donné des groupes floristiques relatifs aux distributions spatiales des communautés forestières de pin d’Alep des lieux prospectés qui cachent chacune des espèces diverses et des conditions locales particulières.

Diversité floristique de M’Sila : Inventaire, Chorologie, Ecologie.

Le dépouillement des travaux de recherches (projet de recherche, thèse doctorat, mémoires d’ingénieur et de master) effectuer dans la région de M’sila sur la flore et la végétation depuis 2005 nous ont permis de récolter d’importantes informations écologique et de faire l’inventaire floristique de la région. Les résultats obtenus ont aboutis a 548 espèces appartenant à 65 familles et 317 genres dont 28 plantes endémiques, 77 plantes rares, 12 plantes protégés par la loi algérienne, 3 espèces sont classées dans la liste rouge de l’ICUN et dont 175 espèces propre à la steppe. La composition systématique de ces espèces fait apparaitre que 7 familles botaniques sont dominantes : les Asteraceae avec 73 espèces, les Fabaceae avec 56 espèces, les Poaceae avec 50 espèces, les Brassicaceae avec 47 espèces, les Lamiaceae avec 28 espèces, les Liliaceae avec 21 espèces et les Caryophyllaceae avec 20 espèces. Les spectres chorologie et biologique montrent que les espèces de souches méditerranéenne et les thérophytes sont les plus représentatives. L’étude a située plusieurs sites d’importances écologiques et économiques remarquable qui mérite d'être protégé et même classé en zone protégée (parc, réserve et corridor...) dans le cadre du développement durable. Il est a précisé que cette biodiversité est convoitée et non protégée contre les usages et les activités des habitants (coupe de bois, pâturage, récolte de plantes médicinales et utiles, etc.).

Ethnobotanical surveys on influenza treatment methods in the municipalities of M’sila, Ouled Derradj, Berhoum and Magra of the willaya of M’sila (Algeria).

In order to know and identify the traditional uses of medicinal plants among the inhabitants, ethnobotanical surveys are carried out almost every year and since 2005 in the wilaya of M'sila. This work was carried out randomly among 100 people from different social categories during the year 2023, in order to collect as much information on traditional methods of treating influenza. The analyzes of the information collected included 14 medicinal plants belonging to 14 genera and 8 botanical families. The study showed that leaves (38%), fruits (25%) and flowers (19%) are the most widely used parts in the form of infusion (22%), oil (19%) or in juice (14%). The main causes of the flu for the respondents in the communes surveyed in M'sila were the climate (cold) and infections. In addition, for the question on the treatment of covid-19, residents confirmed that they used the same treatments as those for the flu.

Polyphenolic contents, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities of Saccocalyx satureioides Coss. & Dur. essential oil and methanol extracts.

The whole plant Saccocalyx satureioides, an endemic medicinal plant in
Algeria, was evaluated for its polyphenolic contents, antioxidant and antimicrobial
activities. The polyphenolic contents of the plant methanolic extracts ranged from 170.47
to 285.56 (μg GAEs/mg extract) and from 25.39 to 82.68 (μg QEs/mg extract), respectively.
High antioxidant activity was registered: DPPH average IC50 = 14.68 μg/mL, and β-carotene
average IC50 = 21.08 μg/mL. The essential oil and methanolic extracts from the aerial parts
and roots were tested against bacteria and molds. Different methods, including disk
diffusion, well diffusion, and microdilution tests for bacteria, were used. The essential
oil (February and June harvest periods) value 1.25 μL/mL was the MIC and the MBC for
all bacterial strains, except E. coli, K. pneumonia and Ps. aeruginosa. The average fungal
inhibition of the methanol extracts ranged from 5.10 to 71.25%, except for F. oxysporum. The
essential oil effect was 6.67-83.53% and 17.01-90.57% by the food poisoned and fumigation
methods, respectively. The preliminary phytochemical evaluation demonstrated the high
polyphenolic contents and effective antioxidant power of the plant extracts. This may
have an essential role in the antimicrobial effectiveness and indicate that the plant
contains high-quality bioactive molecules in addition to the essential oil

Évaluation in vitro des activités α-amylase, photoprotectrice, antimicrobienne et composition chimique des huiles essentielles d'Asphodelus microcarpus (Liliaceae) de Constantine (Est de l'Algérie),

This study examines the antidiabetic, photoprotective, and antibacterial properties of Asphodelus microcarpus (Liliaceae) essential oil (EO) collected from Constantine, Eastern Algeria. The EO was obtained by hydro-distillation and the composition was determined by Gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Fifty-one (51) compounds were identified in the EO; the major components are α-phellandrene (15.18%), α-pinene (14.27%), Sabinene (13.81%), β-Ocimene (Z) (12.69%), and δ-3- carène (9.20%). Based on the findings of the biological assays, the EO appeared to have dose-dependent anti-diabetic activity in the α-amylase test, with an IC50 value of 412.73±5.83μg/ml. Additionally, according to the Recommendation of the European Commission (2006), this oil displayed significant activity with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 31.89±0.10. Furthermore, the EO was tested for its antibacterial activity against five bacteria strains, and its antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger using the agar-well diffusion method. The studied EO showed only marginal activity against the tested microorganisms and was inactive against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. However, A. microcarpus EO showed notable antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger with a minimum concentration of 25μg/mL. It is important to note that this is the first report on the α-amylase and SPF effects of Asphodelus microcarpus EO.

Phytochemical Analysis and Antioxidant and Antifungal Activities of Powders, Methanol Extracts, and Essential Oils from Rosmarinus officinalis L. and Thymus ciliatus Desf. Benth.

Chemical residues in food pose health risks such as cancer and liver issues. This has driven the search for safer natural alternatives to synthetic fungicides and preservatives. The aim of this study was to characterize the chemical composition of the essential oils (EO), determine the polyphenolic contents, and evaluate the in vitro antioxidant and antifungal activities of methanol extracts (ME), essential oils (EO), and powders from Rosmarinus officinalis L. (rosemary) and Thymus ciliatus (Desf) Benth. (thyme) from the M’sila region, Algeria. The chemical composition of the EOs was determined by GC-MS. R. officinalis EO was composed of 31 components, mainly camphor (41.22%), camphene (18.14%), and α-pinene (17.49%); T. ciliatus EO was composed of 58 components, mainly, in percentage, α-pinene (22.18), myrcene (13.13), β-pinene (7.73), β-caryophyllene (10.21), and germacrene D (9.90). The total phenols and flavonoids were determined spectrophotometrically, and the rosemary ME was found to possess the highest polyphenolic content (127.1 ± 2.40 µg GAE/mg), while the thyme ME had the highest flavonoid content (48.01 ± 0.99 µg QE/mg). The antioxidant activity was assessed using three methods: rosemary ME was the most potent, followed by DPPH (IC50 = 13.43 ± 0.14 µg/mL), β-carotene/linoleic acid (IC50 = 39.01 ± 2.16 μg/mL), and reducing power (EC50 = 15.03 ± 1.43 µg/mL). Antifungal activity was assessed for 32 pathogenic and foodborne fungi. Four methods were applied to the solid medium. Incorporating the powdered plant into the culture medium (at 10%) reduced the fungal growth to greater than 50% in 21.88% and 6.25% of all fungal isolates, for R. officinalis and T. ciliatus, respectively. The ME, applied by the well diffusion method (0.1 g/mL), was less effective. Different concentrations of EO were tested. Incorporating the EO into the culture medium (1500 μL/L) inhibited 50% of the molds to levels of 50 and 75% for R. officinalis and T. ciliatus, respectively, with the complete inhibition of four fungi. Fumigated EO (15 μL) inhibited 65% of the molds to levels of 65 and 81.25% for R. officinalis and T. ciliatus, respectively, with the complete inhibition of five fungi. There was little to no sporulation in conjunction with the inhibition. Our results revealed some of the potential of the studied plants to fight foodborne molds and presented their promising characteristics as a source of alternatives to chemical pesticides and synthetic preservatives. Further studies are needed to find adequate application techniques in the food safety area.

Chemical composition, anti-fusarium and radical-scavenging activities of essential oil and extracts of Hertia cheirifolia (L.) Kuntze growing in Boutaleb (Setif, Algeria).

This study was carried out with the objective to investigate the essential oil chemical composition, essential oil and extracts biological activities of Hertia cheirifolia. The volatile components of the aerial parts of H. cheirifolia, obtained by hydrodistillation, have been analysed by GC/MS. Fifty-six compounds were identified accounting for 98.41% of the total oil. However, all the oil was characterized by the predominance of three components, α-Pinene (33.07%), 1-[1-Methyl-1-(4-methyl-cyclohex-3-enyl)-ethyl]-1H-pyrrole (28.08%) and Germacrene D (19.59%). The free radical scavenging activity of the essential and the extracts was determined by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) model system. The antifungal activity showed that the essential oil, the methanolic extract and the aqueous extract of H. cheirifolia significantly reduced the growth of Fusarium graminearum, F. oxysporum f. sp. albedinis and F. culmorum.

This study was carried out with the objective to investigate the essential oil chemical composition, essential oil and extracts biological activities of Hertia cheirifolia. The volatile components of the aerial parts of H. cheirifolia, obtained by hydrodistillation, have been analysed by GC/MS. Fifty-six compounds were identified accounting for 98.41% of the total oil. However, all the oil was characterized by the predominance of three components, α-Pinene (33.07%), 1-[1-Methyl-1-(4-methyl-cyclohex-3-enyl)-ethyl]-1H-pyrrole (28.08%) and Germacrene D (19.59%). The free radical scavenging activity of the essential and the extracts was determined by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) model system. The antifungal activity showed that the essential oil, the methanolic extract and the aqueous extract of H. cheirifolia significantly reduced the growth of Fusarium graminearum, F. oxysporum f. sp. albedinis and F. culmorum.

Les plantes utilisées pour le traitement de la grippe (+ covid-19) dans quelques communes de la willaya de Msila

Afin de connaître et de recenser les usages traditionnelles des plantes médicinales chez les habitants des enquêtes ethnobotanique se font pratiquement chaque année et depuis l’année 2005 dans la wilaya de M'sila. Ce travail a été réalisé aléatoirement auprès de 100 enquêtés de différentes catégories sociales durant l’année 2023, afin de recueillir autant d'informations sur les méthodes traditionnelles de traitement de la grippe. Les analyses des informations récoltées (questionnaires) ont comptés 14 plantes médicinales appartenant à 14 genres et à 8 familles botaniques. L’étude a montré que les feuilles (38%), les fruits (25%) et les fleurs (19%) sont les parties les plus largement utilisées sous forme d’infusion (22%), d’huile (19%) ou de jus (14%). Les causes principales de la grippe pour les enquêtés des quelques communes de M’sila étaient le climat (froids) et les infections. De plus, pour la question sur le traitement du covide-19 les habitants ont confirmés qu’ils ont utilisés les mêmes traitements de la grippe.

les plantes utilisées pour le traitement des maladies d’estomac dans quelques commune de la wilaya de M’Sila

Pour connaître les usages traditionnelles des plantes médicinales par les habitants, 18 communes (parmi les 47 communes existante) de la wilaya de M'sila ont étés touché par des enquêtes ethnobotaniques réalisé aléatoirement auprès de 109 enquêtés. Il a été utilisé un ensemble de questions sur un site web ou différentes catégories d’habitants ont répondus au questionnaire online. Plusieurs informations sur les méthodes traditionnelles de traitement des maladies d’estomac ont été recueillies et analysées. Les résultats obtenus ont comptés 25 plantes médicinales appartenant à 23 genres et à 11 familles qui traites plus de 6 maladies de l’estomac (Diarrhée, Nausée, Brûlures, Constipation, Perte d’appétit et les Gaz). L’étude a montré que les feuilles (43,3%) et les graines (25%) sont las parties les plus largement utilisée sous forme d’ébullition (63,8%). L’enquête a recensées 20 recettes composées exclusivement de plantes, elles sont soit constituées d’une seule plante soit associées avec d’autres plantes. Les universitaires sont les plus touchés par cette enquête vue la disponibilité et l’accès au net.

Cedar vascular flora of Djebel Maadid. Floristic analysis–Conservation.

The study region belongs to Cedrus atlantica Manetti formation, which is a North Africa endemic species. It is situated at Djebel Maadid, southern Bordj-Bou-Arreridj province, Algeria. To preserve this community, a flora inventory is important. We adopted a systematic-subjective non-probability sampling method in 30 surveys. The results revealed 108 species distributed among 91 genera and belonging to 34 botanical families. The analysis, including similarity and detrended correspondence analysis, identified various groups of plants-samples that demonstrate different environmental states linked to distinct stationarity. The species richness in particular sites can play a local role in the in-situ conservation of plants and habitats and must be registered for an urgent awareness situation.

Polyphenolic contents, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities of Saccocalyx satureioides Coss. & Dur. essential oil and methanol extracts

The whole plant Saccocalyx satureioides, an endemic medicinal plant in Algeria, was evaluated for its polyphenolic contents, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. The polyphenolic contents of the plant methanolic extracts ranged from 170.47 to 285.56 (μg GAEs/mg extract) and from 25.39 to 82.68 (μg QEs/mg extract), respectively. High antioxidant activity was registered: DPPH average IC50 = 14.68 μg/mL, and β-carotene average IC50 = 21.08 μg/mL. The essential oil and methanolic extracts from the aerial parts and roots were tested against bacteria and molds. Different methods, including disk diffusion, well diffusion, and microdilution tests for bacteria, were used. The essential oil (February and June harvest periods) value 1.25 μL/mL was the MIC and the MBC for all bacterial strains, except E. coli, K. pneumonia and Ps. aeruginosa. The average fungal inhibition of the methanol extracts ranged from 5.10 to 71.25%, except for F. oxysporum. The essential oil effect was 6.67-83.53% and 17.01-90.57% by the food poisoned and fumigation methods, respectively. The preliminary phytochemical evaluation demonstrated the high polyphenolic contents and effective antioxidant power of the plant extracts. This may have an essential role in the antimicrobial effectiveness and indicate that the plant contains high-quality bioactive molecules in addition to the essential oil.

Research and structural determination of secondary metabolites of Linaria scariosa (Scrophulariaceae)

Background and aim: the genus Linaria (Scrophulariaceae) shows that this genus is reputed to accumulate a diversity of secondary metabolites, in particular iridoids and flavonoids, molecules known for their various biological activities.
In this work, our interest focused on the phytochemical study of an Algerian species, Linaria scariosa (Scrophulariaceae).
Materials and methods: The phytochemical investigation of extracts of the species Linaria scariosa was carried out using different chromatographic techniques; it allowed the obtaining of 10 compounds. The identification of these compounds was carried out by combining different spectral methods, namely UV-Visible spectrophotometry, 1D NMR (1H, 13C and DEPT) and 2D (HSQC, HMBC, COSY and NOESY).
Results: The phytochemical study of this species permitted the separation and identification of 4 iridoids, 5 flavonoids and 1 sterol.
Conclusion: These products are isolated for the first time from the species L. scariosa. These results confirm the richness of the genus Linaria in phenolic and iridoid compounds
.

Phytochemical analysis, antibacterial and antifungal effect of Lavandula dentata L. essential oil and methanol extract

The aim of this study was to analyse the essential oil of Lavandula dentata from Algeria and to test the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of this plant. The essential oil (EO) (57 constituents) included mainly α-pinene, β-pinene, nopinone, linalool, cryptone, and limonene. The plant polyphenolic contents and the antioxidant activity were determined. The antimicrobial effect of the EO and the methanolic extract (ME) was assessed against referenced and clinical bacterial strains, and also foodborne fungal isolates. The EO minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values varied from 0.25 to 4 mg/mL and minimal bactericidal concentrations (MBCs) were less than 8 mg/mL except for S. aureus, clinical Klebsiella, S. epidermidis, and B. subtilis. The mould strains were significantly inhibited by the EO (87.50% to 88.33%). The MIC values were 3.60–15.62 mg/mL and 0.5–4 mg/mL for ME and EO, respectively. The minimal fungicidal concentration (MFC) values ranged from 31 to 125 mg/mL and from 2 to 8 mg/mL for ME and EO, respectively.

Apport d'un SIG pour l’étude de la gestion des ressources en eau de la région de Msila - Algérie./Contribution of a GIS for the study of water resources management in the Msila region - Algeria.

L’eau est indissociable á l’activité humaine. Il est la plus vitale au même titre que l’air. Elle est indispensable á la survie des êtres vivants. C’est une ressource porteuse de beaucoup de spécificités, à la fois abondante et rare. La gestion des ressources en eau en Algérie évolue en ordre politique, social, économique, culturel et environnemental qui entrave fortement sa mise en œuvre.
Dans cette étude on va discuter l'utilisation et l'exploitation des techniques des Systèmes d'Information Géographique (SIG) pour l'étude de la gestion des ressources en eaux dans la région de M’sila à travers la réalisation d'une base de données thématiques et spatiales. Les avantages des S.I.G sont multiples surtout dans le domaine de planification et de gestion des
ressources naturelles tel que l’eau. Ils offrent la possibilité de description des organisations spatiales suivant des modèles qui peuvent évoluer avec les progrès des connaissances. Ils favorisent aussi la mise à jour des données, les changements d’échelles et la restitution des cartes thématiques.
La région de M’sila apparaît comme un cas d’étude exemplaire des difficultés que pose la problématique du « système eau » et répond à notre avis à ce souci d’analyse d’un espace qui présente la triple caractéristique de consommation industrielle importante, de consommation ménagère en expansion et de besoins agricoles appelés forcement à augmenter, vu la nécessité, à moyen terme, d’une intensification agricole.

The Cedar biodiversity in south of Bordj-Bou-Arreridj state (Inventory and preservation )

Abstract: Objectives: In a context of noticeable environmental degradation and change such as drought and anthropogenic pressures, it is more imperative to inventory and evaluate a relictural plant community in a steppes environment that remains little known and suffering from degradation. This medium is located south of the wilaya of Bordj-Bou- Arréridj: it is the cedraie of Djebel MAADID. The dominant forest species of this community is the Atlas cedar: Cedrus atlantica [(Manetti ex Endl.) Carrière, 1855]. It is a species already protected by national regulations. To protect this biological community, in the context of an ecological strategy as part of a vision of sustainable development for the preservation of plant genetic resources of the Algerian steppe, Methods: Analysis of the state of the environment of this area will contribute to the management of this forest ecosystem, which is a sufficiently degraded for future management and key conservation measures. Resultats and Discussion: the inventory of the existing flora and more than necessary to diagnose the current state of the area on the one hand and on the other hand to decide for an in situ conservation that would allow the preservation of this plant biodiversity for future generations in the face of a drought (felt by global warming) which has been raging for some time, an environment threatened by fires, illegal cutting of trees and especially an omnipresent overgrazing. Preliminary analysis of the results resulted in the characterization of five vegetation facies inferred to the Atlas cedar at Djebel Maadid, with 32 families and 115 species. Conclusion: Diagnosis of the state of the study environment will contribute to the preservation of this forest ecosystem, which is sufficiently degraded for future management and key conservation measures, especially since the difficulty of access to the area will preserve it from possible disturbances and degradation. TRADITIONAL USES, PHYTOCHIMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF PULICARIA ARABICA (L.) CASS.

This article aims to overview the traditional uses, chemical compositions and biological activities of essential oils and extracts of Pulicaria arabica which is considered a traditional medicinal plant in the treatment of various diseases.The P. arabica is used in the treatment of several diseases such as antidiarrheal, anti schistosomiasis, digestive disorders, ulcers, anti-tobacco and skin diseases. Several different biological properties have been reported such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, insecticidal, hepatoprotective and nephritic effects. The chemical investigation of the P. arabica (aerial parts, leaves, stems and flowers) showed some qualitative and quantitative differences in the chemical composition, for example the major compounds for essential oils (Thymol, γ-Cadinene, α-Cadinol and epi-α-Cadinol), flavonoids and Caryophyllene derivatives.

Désertification dans un bassin versant. Utilisation de SIG pour une analyse et proposition d’actions de lutte. Cas le sous -bassin versant d'Oued Boussaâda Algérie

Le phénomène de la désertification touche tous les continents, en particulier les zones arides et semi-arides, où son expansion est l'un des problèmes environnementaux les plus importants de notre époque. Le Système d'Information Géographique (SIG) est un outil informatique permettant de représenter et d'analyser tous les éléments qui existent sur terre ainsi que les événements qui s'y produisent. Une méthodologie de travail qui consiste à représenter les informations collectées sous forme de cartes thématiques, a été réalisée à l'aide du logiciel ArcGis en exploitant les données de base disponibles au niveau de l’organisme : Algérienne Des Eaux (ADE), l’Agence National des Ressources Hydrauliques (A.N.R.H), Conservation des forêts (CF) et aussi les données pluviométriques recueillies auprès les stations météorologiques (Boussaâda et M’sila). Dans ce travail, nous avons présenté les étapes de la préparation des données nécessaires à la simulation, ceci, tout d'abord par la détermination d'une base de données (BD) sur le phénomène de désertification et d’occupation des sols sous forme de cartes locales et d’autres données, suivi de la création des Modèles de Bases de Données Géographiques (MGDB) et pour le sous -bassin versant d’Oued Boussaâda. L’objectif de ce travail est d’étudier et d’évaluer la désertification au niveau du ce sous-bassin, ou cette technologie de l’information est un moyen de représenter et d’analyser tous les éléments qui se rapportent à l’environnement compte tenu de la zone de notre étude est une zone de steppe semi-aride.

Flore indésirable dans un agrosystème aride au Nord-Est d’Algérie : Analyse floristique

L'inventaire des mauvaises herbes a été réalisé dans une zone agricole aride près de l'Oasis de Boussaada (Nord-Est d'Algérie). Il a été établi pour connaître ces plantes indésirables et plus loin pour leur contrôle. Les objectifs de cette étude sont d'une part l'analyse de la flore rencontrée : taxonomie, forme de vie, chorologie, et richesse en adventices et d'autre part d'apprécier la répartition spécifique de ces plantes à chaque spéculation. Un échantillonnage non probabiliste systématique-subjectif a été réalisé sur cinq cultures. Nous avons identifié 41 espèces en particulier des thérophytes rattachées à 13 familles botaniques et appartenant pour la plupart à l'élément biogéographique méditerranéen. La richesse floristique par culture laisse en moyenne 17 espèces et 24 pour les plus riches et pour ce qui est de la végétation originelle nous avons recensé Enarthrocarpus clavatus Del., Pseuderucaria teretifolia (Desf.) O.E.Schulz, Bassia muricata (L.) Asch. et Diplotaxis erucoides (L.) OC. mais on souligne tout de même la présence d’un taxon exotique d’origine américaine: Amaranthus deflexus L. La répartition des mauvaises herbes estimée par l'abondance des plantes reste simple et efficace où l'analyse numérique DCA a élucidée cinq groupes de mauvaises herbes propres à chaque spéculation. Le groupe du fenouil avec Diplotaxis erucoides (L.) DC., Glebionis coronaria (L.) Cass. ex Spach et Hordeum murinum L., la spéculation de la betterave rouge qui renferme Bromus rubens L. et Sisymbrium irio L., la culture fourragère de luzerne qui présente Bromus tectorum L, Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn et Malva sylvestris L., le groupe de laitue a laissé apparaitre les mauvaises herbes comme Sonchus oleraceus L., Fumaria officinalis L. et Avena sterilis L. et enfin la culture vivrière de blé dur qui a montré les plantes indésirables comme Polygonum aviculare L., Sinapis arvensis L. et Scolymus hispanicus L.

Etat des lieux de la cédraie de Djebel Maadid (Sud de la Wilaya de Bordj Bou Arréridj)

Résumé : Dans une approche de développement durable pour la conservation des ressources phytogénétiques face à une dégradation et des changements environnementaux perceptibles comme la sécheresse et les pressions anthropiques suscitent d’inventorier et d’évaluer une communauté végétale relictuelle d’un milieu steppique qui demeure méconnu. Ce milieu est situé au Sud de la wilaya de Bordj-Bou-Arréridj : c’est la cédraie de Djebel Maadid. Ce Djebel, qui fait partie intégrante des monts du Hodna. Il présente une flore remarquable et originale. La diversité de sa flore implique bel et bien une étude floristique et écologique surtout que c’est un milieu situé en zone à climat semi-aride. L’espèce forestière dominante de ce massif est le cèdre de l’atlas : Cedrus atlantica [(Manetti ex Endl.) Carrière, 1855] et qui déjà protégée par la réglementation nationale. Pour préserver cette communauté biologique, dans une vision de stratégie écologique s’inscrivant dans une politique développement durable et une préservation du patrimoine naturel des ressources, l’inventaire de la flore existante et impératif pour diagnostiquer l’état actuel de la zone d’une part et de l’autre statuer pour une conservation in situ qui permettrait une préservation de cette biodiversité végétale pour les générations futures face à des menaces tels que la sécheresse, les incendies, les coupes illicites d’arbres et surtout un surpâturage omniprésent. L’analyse de l’état du milieu de cette zone contribuera à une prise en main de cet écosystème forestier assez dégradé pour une gestion future et des mesures de conservation clés. Atlas cedar conservation in eastern Algeria (Bordj-Bou-Arreridj)

Abstract – In a sustainable development approach for the conservation of plant genetic resources in the face of degradation and perceptible environmental changes such as drought and anthropogenic pressures, it is more imperative to inventory and assessment of a plant community relictural of a steppic environment that remains unknown. Cedrus atlantica [(Manetti ex Endl.) Carrière, 1855] which is already protected by national regulation and to preserve this biological community, in a vision of ecological strategy as part of a sustainable development policy and preservation of the natural heritage of resources, an inventory of the existing flora and imperative to diagnose the current state of this area on the one hand and on the other hand rule for an in situ conservation that would allow the preservation of this plant biodiversity for future generations in the face of threats such as the drought, fires, illegal tree cutting, and especially overgrazing. Analysis of the state of the environment of this area will contribute to the management of this forest ecosystem, which is a sufficiently degraded for future management and key conservation measures. Preliminary analysis of the results resulted in the characterization of five vegetation facies inferred to the Atlas cedar at Djebel Maadid which is located exactly in Bordj-Bou- Arreridj state; eastern Algeria, with 29 families and 135 species. The inventory of flora is the basis of any attempt to preserve and conserve natural plant communities. The results are conclusive and will help safeguard plant genetic resources on the study site and for future generations.

Abstract:

Chemical constituents, in vitro anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and hemostatic activities of the n-butanol extract of Hyacinthoides lingulata (Poir.) Rothm.

e profil phytochimique obtenu à partir de l'analyse LC-ESI-MS/MS de l' extrait de n- butanol (BEHL) de la plante endémique d'Afrique du Nord Hyacinthoides lingulata (Poir.) Rothm. a permis l'identification de dix dérivés glycosylés de l'apigénine et des flavones de lutéoline. Pour le même extrait végétal, anti-inflammatoire in vitro (test d'hémolyse induite par hypotonie et d'hémolyse induite par la chaleur) et antioxydant (DPPH et β-Carotène) ont été évaluées en observant une inhibition inflammatoire élevée en protégeant la stabilité membranaire des érythrocytes à la fois dans l'hémolyse induite par la chaleur (84,70 ± 0,24%) et l'hypotonie (79,45 ± 0,12%). Un effet hémostatique remarquable a également été établi en mesurant le temps de coagulation (15,95 ± 1,05 s à la dose de 1 mg/mL) de plasma décalcifié lié à son contenu phytochimique. Il s'agit du premier rapport sur les composants chimiques combinés et l'évaluation biologique de cette plante spécifique.

POTENTIALITY OF MEDICINAL FLORA IN TREATING OF SEVERAL DISEASES IN SOME MUNICIPALITIES IN THE HODNA (ALGERIA)

The aim of this study is to identify the medicinal plants used as a traditional pharmacopoeia in the Hodna region. The technique used is based on ethnobotanical
surveys and is to collect information from the villagers. The study identified seventy-three (73) species. They are divided into sixty-seven (67) genera and thirty-nine (39) botanical families among which the most dominant are the Lamiaceae (12 species), Apiaceae (8 species) and the Asteraceae with 5 species. The aerial part occupies the first place among the plant organs used. The majority of remedies are prepared as a decoction with a percentage of 43%, followed by an infusion with 29%. We note that a large diversity of diseases treated by its identified plants. The ICF factors ranging from 0.79 to 0.89 for the eight uses categories retained for this study. The results obtained during this contribution constitute a database for subsequent studies aimed at experimentally evaluating the biological and chemical potential of these plants.

Impact de la cimenterie de Hammam Dalaa (M’sila) sur l’environnement après 15. Séminaire national “webinaire” bio-ressources

La cimenterie installée en 2003 dans la région dite El-Debil, commune Hammam Dalâa wilaya de Msila, constitue un problème pour l'environnement limitrophe dans le future. Pour éviter et lutter contre ces problèmes nous devons dans un premier temps déterminer la nature des rejets solides, liquides et gazeux de la cimenterie. A travers des projets de fin d'étude d'ingéniorat et de master en écologie et environnement, nous avons essayé durant 15 ans de déterminer l'impact de la cimenterie sur le sol, l'eau, les végétaux et les habitants les plus proches de la cimenterie (santé). Par le biais d'analyse des paramètres physico-chimique du sol, l’eau et les végétaux, l'inventaire de la végétation et les enquêtes (fiche questionnaire) auprès des riverains habitant la région d'El-Debil (de façon échelonné dans le temps et dans l’espace) ont montré la présence d’une pollution qui augmente d’une année à l’autre, la flore diminue (90 espèces végétale pour 28 familles botaniques en 2007 et 18 espèces pour 10 familles en 2015), apparition de maladies respiratoire et cutanées chez les habitants, les fissures des mures des habitations à cause des fortes explosions et la disparition des activités agricoles. .

Screening for in vitro antioxidant activity and antifungal effect of Artemisia campestris L.

In this study, the methanolic extract (ME) and the essential oil (EO) of the medicinal plant Artemisia campestris L. were investigated for their antioxidant activity and their antifungal efficacy on the postharvest storage decays; Botrytis cinerea Pers. and Penicillium expansum Link. The total polyphenolic and flavonoid contents were determined.
The ME had higher total polyphenolic and flavonoid contents (400.64 μg GAE/mg and 43.13 ± 0.14 μg QE/mg, respectively) than EO (27.47 ± 0.44 μg GAE/mg and 14.04 ± 0.82 μg QE/mg, respectively). The ME presented higher radical scavenging power than the BHT and its IC50 values were 11.71, 40.96 and 23.32 μg/mL for the DPPH, β-carotene bleaching and reducing power respectively. In the antifungal activity, the EO had the stronger effect on both molds, particularly at concentrations > 15 μL, ≥ 800 μL/L and ≥ 15 μL by fumigation, incorporation and disc-diffusion methods respectively, resulting in higher than 80% inhibition of B. cinerea mycelial growth, and from 50 to > 80% inhibition on P. expansum mycelial growth. Methanolic extract showed nearby 50% inhibition on both fungi. The EO MIC was less than 2.5 μL/mL which was shown as MFC for both molds. The bio-autography test has shown separated compounds of the ME having an inhibitor effect on spore germination. These results offer an advantage of suggesting A. campestris could be used as a material for extraction of certain antifungal chemicals for preventing spoilage in food items.

Chemical composition of essential oil from the aerial parts of Santolina rosmarinifolia L. a wild Algerian medicinal plant

The analysed essential oil in this study was obtained by hydrodistillation from the aerial parts of Santolina rosmarinifolia L. (Asteraceae) collected from Hodna area of Algeria. This species is a medicinal herb traditionally used in Algeria. Its essential oil has been analyzed by combining GC-FID and GC-MS. The analysis led to the identification of eighty-two components, representing 91.84% of the whole composition of the sample. The main components were capillene (32.8%), 1,8-cineole (15.1%) and β-myrcene (14.0%).

Essential oils from three Algerian medicinal plants (Artemisia campestris, Pulicaria arabica, and Saccocalyx satureioides) as new botanical insecticides?

Medicinal and aromatic plants represent an outstanding source of green active ingredients for a broad range of real-world applications. In the present study, we investigated the insecticidal potential of the essential oils obtained from three medicinal and aromatic plants of economic importance in Algeria, Artemisia campestris, Pulicaria arabica, and Saccocalyx satureioides. Gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to study the essential oil chemical compositions. The three essential oils were tested against a mosquito vectoring filariasis and arboviruses, i.e., Culex quinquefasciatus, a fly pest acting also as pathogens vector, Musca domestica, and an agricultural moth pest, i.e., Spodoptera littoralis, using WHO and topical application methods, respectively. The essential oil from A. campestris, containing β-pinene (15.2%), α-pinene (11.2%), myrcene (10.3%), germacrene D (9.0%) (Z)-β-ocimene (8.1%) and γ-curcumene (6.4%), showed remarkable toxicity against C. quinquefasciatus (LC50 of 45.8 mg L−1) and moderate effects (LD50 of 99.8 μg adult−1) against M. domestica. Those from P. arabica and S. satureioides, containing epi-α-cadinol (23.9%), δ-cadinene (21.1%), α-cadinol (19.8%) and germacrene D-4-ol (8.4%), and thymol (25.6%), α-terpineol (24.6%), borneol (17.4%) and p-cymene (11.4%), respectively, were more active on S. littoralis showing LD50 values of 68.9 and 61.2 μg larva−1, respectively. Based on our results, the essential oil from A. campestris may be further considered a candidate ingredient for developing botanical larvicides.

Chemical composition, polyphenolic content, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of essential oil and methanolic extract of Lavandula stoechas L.

This work describes the chemical composition, polyphenolic content, antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal activities of essential oil (EO) and methanolic extracts (MEs) of Lavandula stoechas L., a traditional medicinal plant widely distributed in the Algerian Tell. The essential oil from aerial parts was analyzed by GC–MS. Thirty-eight components were identified, of which fenchone (55.42%), camphor (25.18%) were the main compounds of the EO. The amounts of total phenolics of the EO and MEs ranged from 8.12±0.01 to 71.34±0.09µg AGE/mg respectively; flavonoids were from 6.45±0.003 to 14.53±0.02µg QE/mg. Antioxidant activity evaluated using β-carotene/linoleic acid, DPPH and reducing power assays. The IC50 values were registered and compared with those of BHT. The antimicrobial activity towards 04 bacterial strains and 2 fungal strains was assessed using disc diffusion, well diffusion and micro-well dilution assays. The EO (15µl/ml) appeared ineffective on E. coli and less effective on B. cereus to effective on S. aureus and has complete inhibitory effect on K. pneumoniae. The fungal isolates were moderately sensitive to the EO. The MEs have significant effect on all tested microorganisms only at high concentrations. showed significant capacity compared to methanol extracts. The HE tested Lavendula stoechas should be used as easily accessible source of natural antioxidants and as a possible food supplement or in pharmaceutical applications.

Les résultats des parcelles biologiques réalisées au niveau de la forêt d'El-Ghorra

Par le biais de relevés phytosociologiques réalisés dans des parcelles biologiques, on a montré que le pâturage pose problème pour les forêts du Parc National d'El-Kala, en particulier ceux du djebel El-Ghorra. Les relevés ont été effectués dans trois parcelles biologiques (dans différentes types de formations) d'un hectare clôturé par du Zimmerman surélevé de 25-50cm du sol (afin d'empêcher la pénétration de l'homme et son cheptel). Les observations récoltées durant 3 ans successifs ont montré une bonne remontée biologique très accentuée au niveau de la strate herbacée et arbustive. Les facteurs utilisés pour expliquer cette remontée biologique sont le recouvrement par strate et l’abondance et dominance des espèces végétales.

Les champignons du Parc National d'El-Kala (Algérie) - Diversité à protéger et à valoriser

This work concerns the inventory of higher mushrooms of the National park of El-Kala (reserve of the biosphere). This important and remarkable biological richness (to be developed) that the park conceals never was until now the subject of a very thorough study. The exits carried out through the territory of the park during the period of 1997-2002, enabled us to count 173 species pertaining has 35 family with approximately 20 are edible. The families most represented are the Tricholomataceae (26 species), the Russulacae (24 species), the Agaricacae (17 species), the Amanitacae (12 species), the Boletacae (11 species), the Polyporacae (11 species), Gastracae (8 species) and the Coprinacae (8 species)…. 89 already were the subject of an outline of guide during the years 1997 and 1998. These exhaustive results will be used as a basis for making of a guide of mushrooms of the National park of El-Kala and the zones peripheral.

Chemical constituents and HRESI-MS analysis of an Algerian endemic plant Verbascum atlanticum batt. Extracts and their antioxidant activity

This is the first report on the phytochemistry and antioxidant activity of ethyl acetate and n- butanol extracts from an Algerian endemic plant Verbascum atlanticum Batt. (Scrophulariaceae). Both extracts were subjected to a phytochemical study by semi-preparative HPLC, which led to the isolation and identifica¬tion of nine compounds: methyl linolenate (1), methyl linoleate (2), Phytol-1(3), Martynoside (4), Isomartynoside (5), Cis-martyno¬side (6), Ilwensisaponin C (7), Ilwensisaponin B (8), Ilwensisaponin A (9). In addition, the fractions from both extracts were analysed by LC-UV-MS and HRESI-MS. This later revealed the presence of eight other metabolites by using a comparison with known microbial metabolites data. Finally, both extracts were estimated for their phenolic and flavonoid contents as well as the evaluation of their antioxidant activity using five different assays DPPH, CUPRAC, reducing power, 0-carotene bleaching and superoxide DMSO alkaline. The results showed that the ethyl acetate extract had the most antioxidant effect.

An investigation on the volatile composition of Santolina rosmarinifolia L. from Algeria: An Hodna rare species

Abstract: This study is aimed to analyze the essential oil composition obtained by hydrodistillation from the aerial parts of Santolina rosmarinifolia L. (Asteraceae), collected from Hodna area of Algeria. This species is a medicinal herb traditionally used many diseases in Algeria, was analyzed by GC-MS. Eighty-two components were identified, representing 91.84% of the whole composition of the sample. The main components were capillene, 1.8-cineole and β-myrcene, representing more than 61% of the total oil.

catalogues ethnobotaniques et usage durable des plantes médicinales de la région du Hodna (Msila, Algérie).

Cette recherche exploratoire, tente de dresser l'état des lieux des plantes médicinales utilisées dans le domaine de la pharmacologie traditionnelle de la région du Hodna. L’objectif global de cette étude est de recenser une liste des plantes selon leurs usages traditionnels et au même temps les encadrer, les protéger et assurer leur développement dans un contexte législatif et réglementaire de protection de la biodiversité locale et nationale. La méthodologie optée est basée sur les enquêtes ethnobotaniques et la cueillette des informations auprès des villageois. L’étude ethnobotanique a été réalisée au niveau de 13 localités du Hodna entre janvier et septembre 2017, qui nous a permis de recenser soixante-dix-sept (77) espèces ; on note qu’un nombre très important de pathologies traitées par ses plantes a été recensé, ce qui nous a incités à créer une base de données multivariable qui nous aide à reconnaitre le type de gestion adéquate durable de ce patrimoine floristique médicinale.

Chemical composition, phenololic content, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of essential oil and methanolic extract of Lavandula dentata L.

Abstract: This work describes the chemical composition, polyphenolic content, antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal activities of essential oil (EO) and methanolic extract (ME) of Lavandula dentata L., a traditional medicinal plant widely distributed in North-West of Algeria. The essential oil from aerial parts was analyzed by GC–MS. Fifty-seven components were identified, of which β-pinene (15.23%), limonene (9.24%), linalool (8.07%), nopinone (7.84%) cryptone (6.83%) and α-pinene (5.13%) were the main compounds of the EO. The amounts of total phenolics and flavonoids of the ME were respectively 308.06 mg EAG / g and 27.01 mg EQ / g. Antioxidant activity evaluated using β-carotene/linoleic acid assay resulted in IC50 values of 220.366 ± 4.085 mg/ml and 22.46±0.320 μl/ml for the ME and the EO respectively, and in DPPH free radical assay, the IC50 values were 2.58 mg/ml and 201.31±2.81 μl/ml for the ME and the EO respectively. The antimicrobial activity towards 18 bacterial strains and 5 fungi strains was assessed using disc diffusion, well diffusion and micro-well dilution assays. The EO showed greater antimicrobial activity than the ME with MICs ranging from 0.25 to 4mg/ml (0.25mg/ml for Candida albicans ATCC10231) and CMB values ≤ 8mg/ml except for S. aureus ATCC6538, S. aureus ATCC43300, S. epidermidis ATCC12228, B. subtilis ATCC9372, and clinical Klebsiella for which the CMB values were > 8mg/ml. For the molds, applied EO by two tests (well and disc diffusion assay) caused very significant inhibition on all the mold strains with inhibition percentage ranging from 56.94% to 87.50% in the well diffusion assay and from 77.17% to 88.33% in the disc diffusion assay.

Chemical composition, in vitro antioxidant, anticholinesterase and antibacterial activities of Linaria scariosa Desf

The study was performed on the dichloromethane (DCM), ethyl acetate (EAc) and n-butanol (Bu) fractions (F) obtained from the 80% ethanol extract of Linaria scariosa Desf. aerial parts, collected in the North Eastern region of Algeria. Remarkable total phenolic and flavonoid contents were obtained, mainly for EAcF. These results were in accordance with the antioxidant activity of EAcF against DPPH, ABTS, CUPRAC and reducing power tests. DCMF and BuF exhibited significant cholinesterase activity inhibition of BChE and AChE. Moreover, EAcF displayed only moderate antibacterial activities, especially against S. aureus. The biological results were correlated to the chemical components, deduced by both GC-MS analysis of the fractions and the isolation of hemipholin, pectolinarigenin, antirride, antirrinoside, pectolinarin and linariosise, some of which known to exhibit potent effects on the tested biological activities. The study provides the first biological and chemical investigation on Linaria scariosa Desf (unresolved name)

Essential oil composition of aerial parts from Algerian Anacyclus monanthos subsp. cyrtolepidioides (Pomel) Humphries

The chemical composition of the essential oil from the aerial parts of Anacyclus monanthos subsp. cyrtolepidioides (Pomel) Humphries (Asteraceae) growing in a semi-arid region of Algeria was investigated for the first time. The essential oil was obtained by hydrodistillation and fully characterized by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). A total of 97 compounds were identified. The essential oil was found to be rich in trans-chrysanthenyl acetate (9.8 ± 2.0%), (E)-β-farnesene (7.4 ± 1.5%), germacrene D (6.9 ± 1.3%) and myristicin (4.8 ± 0.8%).

Répartition spatiale de la phytodiversité dans une pinède des monts des Oulad Nail (Cas de la wilaya de M'Sila - Algérie)

La zone d'étude est une forêt naturelle de pins située à l'extrême Est des Monts Ouled Naïl dans l'Atlas Saharien d'Algérie. Elle fait partie de la wilaya de M'sila. Elle se localise à 3 km à l’Est de la ville de Djebel Messaad, à 15 km au Sud de la ville de Bousaada et à 40 km au Sud-Ouest du lac salé et sec de Chott El Hodna. Cette forêt est soumise à un bioclimat méditerranéen semi-aride continental. Son substrat est principalement calcaire. Pour montrer l'impact de la topographie sur la diversité végétale et sa répartition spatiale, la méthodologie adoptée est un échantillonnage non probabiliste mixte (stratifié et subjectif), mené par trois facteurs topographiques: exposition, altitude et pente. La stratification a aboutit à 08 strates homogènes avec 03 répétitions envisagées ce qui a donné 24 placettes floristiques. L'analyse floristique a décelé que la zone d'étude comprend 97 taxons répartis dans 73 genres et appartenant à 27 familles botaniques. La diversité floristique est plus riche et plus diversifiée
dans le versant Nord-Ouest et diminue avec l'augmentation de l'altitude et de la pente. Les facteurs topographiques ont une influence indirecte sur la végétation où ils exercent une influence modificatrice sur d'autres facteurs écologiques physiques qui ont une influence directe comme les éléments du climat, les paramètres du sol et la charge caillouteuse superficielle du sol. La richesse et la diversité stationnelle montrent les valeurs les plus élevées dans les premières variantes des facteurs topographiques étudiés: exposition Nord-Ouest, faible altitude et faible pente. En outre, les résultats de l'analyse statistique donnent une différence significative pour l'exposition et la pente où la moyenne de la phytodiversité observée était plus élevée. Le résultat de la phytodiversité selon les facteurs topographiques reflète différentes conditions environnementales où la végétation, dans cette zone d'étude, semble mieux adaptée à cet environnement.

tirait de la ville de M’Sila en a essayé d’expliquer et d’analyser le problème de plantation d’arbre dans le milieu urbain.

Etude ethnobotanique dans la région de Medjedal (M’Sila)

Dans le but de connaître les usages traditionnelles des plantes dans la commune de Medjedel (M'sila) des enquêtes ethnobotaniques ont étés effectués auprès des différentes catégories d’habitants. Après avoir analysé les informations reçues, il a été compté 70 plantes médicinales appartenant à 36 familles, les plus représenté sont : les lamiaceae, les apiaceae, les liliaceae, les astéraceae, les poaceae et les fabaceae. L’étude ethnobotanique a montrée aussi que les feuilles sont la partie la plus largement utilisée et que les usages les plus courants sont l'infusion et la décoction pour traiter les maladies de l’appareil digestif et l’appareil respiratoire.

HPLC analysis, anti-oxidant activity of Genista ferox and its antiproliferative effect in HeLa cell line

The prevention and treatment of the cancer using plants have attracted increasing interest. The present study was aimed to determine the phenolic compounds of Genista ferox using HPLC-TOF/MS and the anti-oxidant acti-vity associated with anti-cancer activity against human cervical adenocarci-noma (HeLa) cell line. Total anti-oxidant capacities of different extracts of G. ferox were assessed by DPPH assay, and their total phenolic and flavonoids contents measured by Folin–Ciocalteu and aluminum trichloride assays. The amounts of total phenolic (105.2 ± 0.6 – 308.5 ± 5.7 mg/g) of extract measured as gallic acid equivalent and flavonoids (8.1 ± 0.1 – 124.0 ± 0.7 mg/g) of extract measured as quercetin equivalent varied from chloroform to n-butanol extract of the two parts of the plant (leaf and stem). The ethyl acetate extract of G. ferox exhibited the most powerful effect on the DPPH scavenging activity with 94% from the leaf and 93% from the stem, while the chloroform extract from the leaf exhibited the most effective anti-proliferative activity against HeLa cell lines.

Phenolic profile and antioxidant activity of Centaurea choulettiana Pomel (Asteraceae) extracts. Combinatorial Chemistry & High Throughput Screening,

Aim and objective: This study aimed to quantify phenolic compounds in ethyl acetate and n-butanol extract of Centaurea choulettiana Pomel (Asteraceae) leaves and flowers; compare the antioxidant activity of their extracts, identification and quantification of their phenolic acids. Materials and methods: Both organs extracts of Centaurea choulettiana Pomel were investigated and evaluated for their potential antioxidant properties using total phenolics and flavonoids content, DPPH radical scavenging and lipid peroxidation inhibition assays. HPLC-TOF/MS analyses were carried out to identify and quantify some phenolic acids. Results: The amounts of phenolic and flavonoid content were higher in ethyl acetate extract of leaves (325.81 ± 0.038 mgGAE and 263.73 ± 0.004 mgQE /g of extract) respectively. Besides, this extract exhibited the most powerful effect on the DPPH radical scavenging activity with (96.54%), on lipid peroxydation inhibition (64.17%). Ethyl acetate extract of leaves and flowers were found to contain almost the same phenolic compounds, with the leaves having the highest values. Chlorogenic acid was detected in the n-butanol extract of flowers with the highest concentration 17.78 mg/kg plant. Conclusion: The ethyl acetate extract of leaves of Centaurea choulettiana possesses strong antioxidative properties in vitro. They are confirmed by high polyphenols and flavonoids content. The HPLC-TOF/MS analysis reveals the presence of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, gentisic acid, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, vanillic acid, p-Coumaric acid, ferulic acid, salicylic acid and protocatechuic acid.

HPLC-UV profile of Genista ulicina Spach. (fabaceae) extracts and in vitro antioxidant activity. International journal of phytomedicine

This study was designed to perform a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the phenolic and flavonoid contents and evaluate the antioxidant activity of ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and n-butanol ( n-BuOH) extracts of the aerial parts of Genista ulicina Spach. from Algeria. The qualitative d out by RP-analysis of plant extracts was carrie HPLC using UV detector, whereas the fication of quanti total phenolic and flavonoid contents was completed according to the Folini Ciocalteu procedure and aluminium chloride colorimetric method respectively. To evaluate the extract's antioxidant activity, two in vitro antioxidant tests were employed: DPPH and β¬carotene bleaching assay. The HPLC/DAD chromatogram showed several peaks indicating the presence of phenolic acids, flavonoids and isoflavonoids in both extracts. The total phenolic content (TPC) ranged from 62.56 and 50.45 mgGAE/g extract, while the total flavonoids content (TFC) varied between 53.1 and 48.4 mgQE/g extract for EtOAC and n-BuOH EtOAc respectively. The extract showed a maximum inhibition value (78.15%) at 150µg/mL using DPPH test and highest antioxidative power (82.42%) using β-carotene bleaching assay - comparing with standards. The HPLC UV analysis showed the richeness of both extracts in lavonoid contents. The EtOAc phenolic and extract exhibited good antioxidant activities n-BuOH extract. Thus Genista ulicina comparing to the could be indicated as a plant of hytopharmaceutical importance.

Investigation phytochimique d’une plante : espèce Genista quadriflora.

ILes plantes produisent une grande diversité de métabolites secondaires pour la défense et la survie dans l’écosystème. Il est estimé que chaque végétal produit au moins une centaine de métabolites secondaires. Certaines d’ entre eux sont responsables de l’action physiologique et par suite de l’utilisation thérapeutique des drogues. Les métabolites secondaires sont recherchés parce qu’ils sont reconnus pour leurs nombreuses activités biologique qui promouvaient des effets de santé. Dans cette perspective nous nous sommes intéressés à l’étude phytochimique d’une plante de la famille des fabacées et du genre Genista quadriflora. Dans ce travail nous nous sommes intéressés en l’extraction, l’isolement et la détermination structurale des métabolites secondaires de type flavonique de l’espèce G. quadriflora. L’accomplissement de ce travail a nécessité l’utilisation de toute la batterie chromatographique en phase liquide ainsi que le recours aux méthodes modernes d’analyses physico-chimique les plus performants notamment, la spectroscopie de résonance magnétique nucléaire mono et bidimensionnelle (RMN1 H, RMN 13C, COSY, HSQC, HMBC), la spectroscopie d’absorption ultraviolette et la spectroscopie de masse à haute résolution. Toutes ces méthodes nous ont permis d’établir les structures isolées de la phase acétate d’éthyle et la phase chloroforme
de l’extrait hydro alcoolique de l’espèce étudiée.

Preliminary phytochemical screening, analysis of phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity of Genista cephalantha Spach. (Fabaceae).

This study was designed to estabilish a preliminary phytochemical screening, evaluate the phenolic and flavonoid content according to the Folin-Ciocalteu procedure, and aluminum chloride method respectively and to determine qualitatively, using HPLC-UV method, the most important products present in ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and n-butanol (n-B uOH) extracts of the aerial parts of Genista cephalantha Spach. from east Algeria. The antioxidant activity of these extracts was spectrophotometrically tested by measuring their ability to scavenge a stable DPPH free radical and by β-C arotene/linoleic acid bleaching assay. Evaluated extracts showed a good activity in both antioxidant system assays.

Biological diversity of the National Park of El-Kala (Algeria), valorization and protection

The National Park of El-Kala (PNEK, biosphere reserve) conceals a remarkable biological
and cultural richness. The investigations carried out through its territory (1996-2010) made it possible to count 1590 vegetable species (distributed among spontaneous vascular and introduced plants, mushrooms, lichens, algae and phytoplankton) as well as 718 animal species. Several of these species, vegetable and animal, are protected in Algeria and belong to the red list of the I.U.C.N. (International Union for Conservation of Nature). The safeguarding and valorization of this richness require the installation of a management plan in adequacy with the International Conventions of biological diversity within the framework of the durable development, i.e. to protect and develop the natural wealth by involving residents of the park.The aim of this paper is to present a detailed study of the flora and fauna of the entire ecosystem of the PNEK. We insist on the considerable importance that flora and fauna bring to the socio-economic life of the area and to its inhabitants.

Analyse des enquêtes ethnobotaniques.

Bien que l’écologie végétale des régions arides et semi arides occupe la majeur partie des études, il est nécessaire qu’une étude spécifique des plantes médicinales de ces régions serait de nature à intéresser vivement à la fois les botanistes et les pharmacologues. En effet, outre sa valeur scientifique, une telle étude peut fournir de précieuses indications sur les tendances générales des recherches relatives aux plantes médicinales et sur les possibilités pratiques de leur utilisation dans la pharmacopée moderne. La wilaya de M’sila se situe au Nord d’Algérie, elle couvre une superficie de 18175 Km2, elle est qualifiée de zone steppique, en effet car l’irrégularité des précipitations au cours de l’année constitue
l’une des principales caractéristiques des zones semi-arides (202,16 mm) (1988- 2012). Les méthodes utilisées dans cette étude est l’enquête ethnobotanique sur la base des fiches questionnaires dans les restes des communes non encore visités, ainsi que la recherche bibliographique à partir des travaux réalisés dans la région de M’sila. On a pu recenser des centaines de plantes médicinales utilisées dans le traitement traditionnel des maladies les plus répondues dans la wilaya. Ces plantes appartiennent aux différentes familles d’usage courant ou non encore connus, mais qui sont déjà identifiées dans d’autres wilayas Algériennes. L’étude des principes actifs des plantes médicinales de cette région montre qu’un grand nombre d’entre elles possèdent des substances actives principales qui les rendent indispensables en pharmacologie pour traitement de plusieurs maladies existantes. Par contre il est nécessaire de noter qu’il faut respecter les doses puisqu’elles produisent fréquemment des effets secondaires fâcheux ou mortels. Il est temps de créer la pharmacopée Algérienne, qui inclurait les directives portant sur la qualité, les tests, l’entreposage des médicaments et leurs substances de base, en plus des réglementations officielles sur les préparations.

This study concerned a chemical screening of the aerial parts of GenistaquadrifloraMunby(endemic species in Algeria and Morocco), in which the presence of several chemical groups was revealed (flavonoids, isoflavonoids, triterpens and others). The chromatographic study on silica gel of the ethyl acetate soluble part of the aqueous-MeOH extract of the aerial partsof this plant, allowed the isolation and the structural elucidation offive known compounds: thevetiaflavone (1), genkwanin (2), genistein (3),biochanin A (4) andisoprunetin (5). The structures were established on the basis of physical and spectroscopic analysis, and by comparison with the literature data. Antioxidant properties were assayed in terms of antioxidant activity of chloroform and ethyl acetate soluble parts. The scavenging ability on 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), is determined with spectrophotometric method.

Diversité biologique du Parc National d’El-Kala (Algérie); Protection et valorisation.

Le Parc National d'El-Kala (réserve de la biosphère) recèle une richesse biologique et culturelle remarquable. Nos investigations nous ont permis de recenser 1579 espèces végétales (chiffre répartie entre les plantes vasculaires spontanées et introduites, les champignons, les lichens, les algues et le phytoplancton) et 604 espèces animales. Plusieurs de ces espèces, végétales et animales, sont protégées en Algérie et font parties de la liste rouge de l'ICUN. La préservation de cette richesse nécessite la mise en place d'un plan de gestion en adéquation avec les conventions internationales sur la diversité biologique dans le cadre du développement durable.

Les plantes médicinale et utiles du Parc National d'El-Kala

Sur la base d’enquête ethnobotanique nous avons entrepris de recenser les plantes médicinales et utiles du Parc National d’El-Kala. Ce dernier est constitué d’une mosaïque d’écosystème très diversifiée. La flore peut être exploitée selon un plan de gestion spatio-temporelle et quantitative. Les résultats des questionnaires réalisés auprès des habitants du parc nous ont permis de dresser deux tableaux: Le premier concerne les plantes utilisées en médecine traditionnelle et le deuxième les plantes utiles (qui présente une utilisation autre que la médecine). Nous avons confection un herbier (l’échantillon de la plante est scanné directement puis, il est mis en herbier). Cette base de données peut être utilisée pour la réalisation de la pharmacopée algérienne

Etude phytosociologie de la forêt domaniale du djebel d’El-Ghorra Parc National d’El-Kala (Algérie)

Le Djebel d'El-Ghorra (réserve intégrale du Parc National d'El-Kala) comporte une végétation forestière et pré-forestière dominée essentiellement par le chêne Zeen et chêne liège. Ce travail a essentiellement essayé de définir et de caractériser les groupements forestiers de ce massif. La méthodologie utilisée est la méthode phytosociologique avec les techniques d'analyse des données, l'Analyse Factorielle des correspondances (AFC) et la Classification Ascendante Hiérarchique. L'analyse de 74 relevés floristique a permis de dégager cinq (05) nouveaux groupements forestières qui se rattachent à deux classes phytosociologiques les Quercetea pubecentis (OBERD 1948) DOING et KRAFT 1955 et Quercetea ilicis Br-Bl 1947. et un sixième groupement des milieux inondés qui se rattacherait à la classe des Stellarietea mediae ((Br-Bl-1931)Tx. Lohm et Prsg 1950).

The National Park of El-Kala constitutes a mosaic of ecosystems shelters a big botanical wealth very varied can make the object of exploitation on the basis of a management plan that determines modes so much spatial, quantitative and temporal. This plan of management works out himself from inventory of species centered on investigations ethnobotaniques and having like support the herbarium must drive to a catalog. Our present knowledge to the National Park of El-Kala is located to the stage of the development of a catalog.
